parque das naçõesLisboa is one of the most ancient cities of the world and, as you might guess, it has a very rich history. Lisbon (in Portuguese, Lisboa) is the capital and largest city of Portugal. Besides being of great historical interest, Lisbon is also a modern city (specially in the newly created Parque das Nações) with sophisticated buildings and a vibrant culture.

Lisbon is situated at 38 degrees, 43 minutes north, and 9 degrees, 8 minutes west, making it the westernmost capital in Europe. It is located in the west of the country, on the Atlantic coast at the point where the river Tagus (Portuguese Tejo) flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The city occupies an area of 84.6 km2. The city comprises 53 freguesias. It is important to say that, unlike most major cities, the city boundaries are narrowly defined around the historical city perimeter. This gave rise to the existence of several administratively defined cities around Lisbon, such as Loures, Amadora and Oeiras, which in fact are part of the metropolitan perimeter of Lisbon.

Bairro Alto: High Life

Lisbon Bario AltoBario Alto is a picturesque working class quarter dating from the 16th century that has traditionally been the city's bohemian haunt of artists and writers.

Escalating the hills west of Rossio the commercial neighborhood of Baixa gives way to the shopping district of Chiado. After night falls follow the streets further up and you're in Bairro Alto, one of Lisbon's undisputed nightlife areas. After midnight crowds gather around storefronts that open up to reveal small bars. The crowd is a mix of local and tourist, straight and gay, and almost anything else you can imagine. When night surrenders to day head further up the hill to the neighborhood of Principe Real, and some nice views of the city.

Lisbon Trum 28

Lisbon Trum 28Nothing is more memorable and fun than to get to various city attractions via Tram 28 in Lisbon. Electrico tram 28 is the vintage yellow tram that plies various routes in Lisbon. It goes through all over the city center, crossing many touristic attractions, while navigating along winding and very narrow streets to town up at sea level.

In terms of tourism Lisbon is one of the top destination cities in Europe, with many attractions, meeting venues and a vast offer in terms of accommodation, including many luxurious Lisbon hotels offering visitors a unique stay in this one of a kind city.
